Band

Tucson Unified bands are award-winners!

Along with fostering a generations-spanning community of instrumentalists, band programs in our schools help fine tune students' technical skills, musicianship, and critical thinking while developing ensemble playing. Expanded application of skills acquired in band emphasize independence in technique, interpretation, performance and composition.

Several students play brass instruments while dressed in marching band uniforms.

Recent recognition includes: ABODA State Competition for Rincon/University HS, ABODA's Top Prize for Tucson High and Superior Award at ABODA Area Festival – Alice Vail MS Advanced Band!

These successes hinge on our approach. Students in elementary school learn that the correct playing position, breathing, and fingering is the foundation of learning to play a band instrument.

From the sound fundamentals, we progress into working with musical concepts, technique, performance situations, and more developed literature.
