Best Communities for Music Education – Twelve Year Recognition
Tucson Unified was recognized at the Arizona Music Educators Association Conference on February 2 in Mesa, Arizona, for our excellent musical programs, outstanding directors, dedicated students, and the twelve year recognition as a Best Communities for Music Education.
Mariachi Aztlan de Pueblo HS and the Sahuaro HS Guitar Orchestra were featured . Directed by John Contreras and Philip Hemmo, each group performed a 40-minute concert for enthusiastic audiences of music educators and students from various locations around the state.
Artistic literacy developed through opportunities to create, perform, present, produce arts, respond and critique art, and connect art to students' lives and the world around them.
